This is the best bonbon in the world – and it is made by Hungarians
Three years ago, ZAX chocolate manufacture opened in Komarno – and since then it has become the judges’ favourite. After last year’s success, their chocolate brought them fame and awards again at the Great Taste Awards of 2022.
From the family kitchen to the workshop
Anyone who tried making chocolate treats knows it is more difficult than it seems. But Zsuzsa Varga spent years practising, working hard in her kitchen, mastering the skills to make these sweet delights. Together with her family, she created the workshop.
Our split of responsibilities has always been set: Zsuzsa, our chocolatier creates our hand-painted, award-winning chocolate pralines, bars, dragees and spreads while Ferenc delivers them to those who crave them. The teamwork is consistent and stays in the family.
Since its opening, ZAX has won several international awards. Zsuzsa Varga makes sure every customer gets the same quality treats as the judges. She makes and decorates every majestic chocolate piece by hand.

The Passionfruit bonbon got three stars, making it the number one filled chocolate in the world. This bonbon was the only one to get that rating among the competitors from the European Union. Last year, the same bonbon won a silver medal at the Academy of Chocolate Awards, but this time, it swept the jury off their feet The dark chocolate flavour is in excellent balance with the freshness and acidity of the passion fruit. They were also amazed by the unique look of the dessert.
Excellently presented, beautiful chocolate with a glossy marbling that is simply stunning. I really liked the detail in the patterning of the chocolate base.
After this year’s overwhelming success with the bonbons, Zsuzsa Varga chocolatier would like to focus on chocolate bars for the upcoming competitions. She revealed she was planning to come out with a new combination of flavours for those with a sweet tooth.
